Nuclear proliferation and the threat of nuclear war

Since the end of the Cold War, the US has continued develop its nuclear weapons program. The funding for these programs stands at 5 billion and is scheduled to increase by one billion over the next three years. The funds will be used to refurbish existing weapons, rebuild facilities used to manufacture nuclear warheads and to step up our readiness to again conduct underground testing in Nevada. America's nuclear forces have played an important role in the military’s strategy since the end of World War II and the threat of nuclear war has acted to deter major conflicts over the last half century.

The evil pretzel never left Mr. Bush's throat, but rather decided to twist around when he was speaking at a press conference in Tokyo. Mr. Bush said he had talked about "devaluation" with Japan's Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi in a previous meeting. As always the "less ignorant ones" (Mr. Bush's staff) later clarified that Georgie had made a mistake: he meant to say deflation instead of devaluation.

I sat down and introduced myself as an inquisitive mind wondering about the other side of the story. Mere human knowledge, although it was abundant, was not enough for me to form an unbiased, educated view. No matter how many facts you have on a subject, you can?t make an educated decision if you ignore a valuable position. I wanted to know about the world from the viewpoint of a tree, and human knowledge just wouldn?t cut it.
